Like we said, the Luxembourg Gardens are located close to the city center. The park can be found just behind the Luxembourg palace and it was built in the same fashion as the palace itself. What sets this park apart from the other parks is the amazing landscaping and the square-shaped trees.
The Luxembourg Museum is also close to the park, as are a couple of very popular high-class restaurants. In fact, nothing’s that far away from the park, so you can go sightseeing when you’re done with your recreation.
Luxembourg park is the most favorite place for joggers and runners in Paris. The longest track in the park is just over 2.05 kilometers, so it’s easy to keep track of your progress. 10 laps, and you’ve run a half-marathon. Many veteran joggers and marathons come here to train on a daily basis.
Nike running and other organizations hold running events in the park, but you can also find many other sports to play. We will get to that in a minute.
Basketball is a fairly popular sport in France, and some of the hardest and toughest street basketball games are played right here in Luxembourg Gardens. There are a couple of excellent courts to play on. Every board is brand new and each hoop has a net. It is quite obvious that the city maintains the entire park well enough.
If things get too hot in the summer sun, you can always retreat to the nearest shade and there is even a restaurant located just south of the court. If you come to the court in the late evening hours, the shade falls all over the court, so you won’t get sunburned.
The most popular sport in the park has to be Tennis (not counting jogging and running). The park has a number of separate courts that are almost always taken. You have to come very early during the day to even get a shot at tennis.
If you want to play that bad, some courts are pay to play, but they are often occupied as well.
Sports lovers can find other fun activities in the park. People often come here to play frisbee or even soccer. There is also a small outdoor gym with a couple of bars you can use to exercise. Skaters can have fun too, elders play chess, the kids have various playgrounds to enjoy.
